dealing with linking and lost wav files
I've noticed something I don't understand well. Let's say I get an audio wav track from a friend via email, and save it to my desktop. Then I go into Pro Tools and import it into a session, which is stored on my external drive. Then I close Pro Tools, and go to my desktop and delete the copy on the desktop.. And go back into Pro Tools, and when I open that same session, the audio won't show up where it should, it tries to find the copy of the wav file. I thought when you import you make a copy into your external hard drive audio folder for that session. They shouldn't link the one on the desktop.. or do they?

Re: dealing with linking and lost wav files
So do you understand the difference between "add" and "copy" in the import audio dialog panel? What exactly are you doing?

Re: dealing with linking and lost wav files
Now I do. Copy is what I want to do so I can delete the original off the desktop. Been doing it wrong for a long time. I've been double clicking the file and it automatically goes over to the last column to convert, which I think is equivilant to having added it. I'll copy where I need to copy now.
