Installing PT 7.3 LE on Snow Leopard - Mac OS X 10.6.8
I recently updated my Mac OS X from Leopard (10.5) to Snow Leopard (10.6). Under the compatibility list on the Avid site, PT 7.3 LE is NOT compatible with anything above Leopard. I went ahead and ran the update anyway, and luckily PT continued to work just fine. However, I am having some issues with other Apps since the OS upgrade. I want to run a clean install, which means I'll have to install PT again from scratch. I've seen alot of forum threads about how PT 7.3 LE runs well on Snow Leopard, but nothing about installing onto Snow Leopard. The only info is speculation that the install might not work. I'm trying to find someone that has actually run the install onto Snow Leopard, and if they were successful or not. I've tried to contact Avid directly about this, but they now require a pay subscription account (that I don't have) for their support.
Thanks, -Adam |

Use pacifist, unpack and manually put the folders where you want them.
Then you'll be able to install an unsupported PT on an unsupported OS. Why don't you use an earlier OSX that's supported? Or Use a PT that's supported?

Re: Installing PT 7.3 LE on Snow Leopard - Mac OS X 10.6.8
I finally have enough money to update to PT 10! I'm really excited to try this new version. I'll also be able to use my plug-ins again.. I haven't been able to use them since the release of PT 8 LE, which phased out their compatibly w/ 7.3 LE. I'm hoping that PT 10 works well with my current computer. It's a MacBook Pro (model 4,1). 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (3 MB L2 Cache, 800Mz Buss Speed) with 4GB DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz. I'm hoping that this will be enough to run PT 10 properly. Anyone running PT 10 on a machine simiiar to this MBP? How does it run?
I was looking at the new MBPs w/ the i7 Intels and 8GB/16GB of the DDR3L Memory. As much as I'd like one of these new models, I'm really hoping it doesn't come down to that. Also, now that you don't need a Digidesign Interface w/ PT 10, I'm thinking about buying a new one. I'm currently using the MBox 2. Any suggestions on an interface? Something w/ 4 to 8 I/O. I've read some good reviews for the MOTU units. Are the newer MBox models or Racks worth taking a look at? I want something with quality mic pres. Thanks, -Adam |

Re: Installing PT 7.3 LE on Snow Leopard - Mac OS X 10.6.8
Orpheus Prism and Apogee are renowned to have perhaps the best D/A A/D and pre amps if you want an 'all in one'.
Otherwise you could go separate units - Pre amp, A/D D/A, interface etc..

That Orpheus Prism sounds cool, but it's WAY outta my price range. Looks like I'll be sticking w/ the MBox 2 'til I hit the lottery.......

Re: Installing PT 7.3 LE on Snow Leopard - Mac OS X 10.6.8
After checking out the Prism's 4k price tage, I was curious what the Apogee units ran.. the Ensamble is 2k. Do they make any interfaces of the same quality, but with less channels? If I'm gonna upgrade from the MBox 2, I want to get something of high quality.. not something that is middle of the road just because it's new.
