Default Loathe and Despise Win-10

I need to rant. This has nothing to do with PT. Its about Win-10.

[rant] Ever since I upgraded to Win-10 from 7, I have all sorts of odd issues with my system. Almost 50% of the time when I boot it up, I get a screen telling me it can log me in...even though I am the ONLY user on the system! I have to hit log off, and then it will let me log right in as if nothing happened! Then, 30% of the time I lost MIDI connections, even though I change nothing. I have to reboot to re-establish the presence of my MIDI controller to the PC. And, I've noticed it takes PT twice as long to boot up now than before with Win-7. All these things drive me nuts sometimes. [/rant]

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. You may now go back to your regularly scheduled mixing.

Go back to Win7

Or what you might want to do is buy new hardware to run Win10.
New drives etcetera....

Have you run that 3rd party software tool called

Latency mon

Amazing stuff and it points you to the problem areas of your computer

Thinking about reverting back to Win-7 makes me want to break out in hives! I have not heard of Latency Mon. I will have to take a look at that. Thanks!

I do plan to build a new system after the new year. So, maybe that will solve some of these issues.

And I would be sure to get of the forced Microsoft upgrade program with a purchased non-Home Windows 10 edition.

Do you mean the automatic updates, Darryl?

I mean the forced automatic updates you can't turn off easily with Home and Creator updates. (nobody should be running a DAW for serious use in anything like that with forced updates).

Yes Pro allows you to do that easier than the home version

If you can keep your DAW PC disconnected from the internet (I know for business reasons some can't do this), you could clone your OS drive, and then periodically connect to the internet and permit the updates. If something in the update messes up your DAW, you can revert back to the disk image.

I have and support a LOT of systems with Windows 10. I hate to say, but your problems are not "universal" with Win 10.

Did you "upgrade" to Windows 10, or do a clean install?

You technically dont need a login screen. I have all my systems setup so it just boots right up, not requiring a login.

Pro will let you defer updates for 90 days, but not "stop" them.
I did this post awhile back. It goes over a couple apps to block all the Windows Telemetry/update capabilities.
