Pro Tools Hangs When Record Enabled

Lately I have been experiencing incredible lag (spinning beach ball in OSX) when tracks are record enabled within Pro Tools. It seems to have started a month back when I moved a session between an intel mac mini and my PPC G5 and it has gotten much worse. Im not sure what the problem is exactly, but the symptoms are as follows : When 1 or more tracks are record enabled, any sudden action such as stopping the transport abruptly after starting, can cause the session to hang for several minutes at a time. Ive tried trashing preferences as well as Disk Utility but neither have proven a solution. Ive moved sessions between my 2 external drives with identical results. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be much appreciated.




I am currently running Pro Tools 7.0 on OSX 10.4.3
Dual 1.8ghz G5/1.5 Gb Ram
160gb/300gb Maxtor firewire hard drives

what is your record time allocation set to?

Currently Set at "Use All Available Space"

Would modifying this to a user defined allocation help?

Yes, limit it to 10 minutes (or an appropriate value).

Thanks a lot to both of you for the assistance. I actually remember setting my allocation time to 10 minutes and disabling auto-save session backup when I first installed 7.0 but somehow both of these preference items had been reset. This seems to have alleviated my problem. This forum/user community really is great.
