Default 2.8.1 - should I? or shouldn't I?

OK - I've got my 2.8.1 upgrade kit, and I'm aware there is 2.8.2. I've been following several of the related posts. I'm not about to make my decision solely on "polling the audience", but I would like to evaluate some responses from several folks with opinions that matter to me. Should I go ahead and do this? Is it stable enough now? Or, are a lot of you still "rolled back"? Or am I the last one hanging on to 2.7?

My system is the Venue D-Show with a side car, 2 stage racks and 4 mix cards.

Eric,

For what its worth, I've been on a Venue since OS 1.0 and this is the first issue that there has ever been with needing a "CS" release. That being said, 2.8.2 has been extremely stable with no issues at all, and I think once you use the VCA and group spill features you'll be very glad you upgraded. We don't have upgrade issues here like you see in the PT side of the DUC.

If you are a heavy plugin user that changes them around a lot during rehearsals or times when you don't have a lot of time, I would wait.

Having seen Dave's other posts on this issue and some of the problems that were being discussed, I would follow his lead. Dave is one of the leading Venue users on the DUC.

I agree. I read Dave's blog too. Funny & smart. Easy to follow a guy's advice when he has a sense of humor.

Dave, I'll keep my ear to the ground for the 2.8.3 cs and keep the upgrade disc holstered until the air seems clear.

I too just experienced this white noise trash over the weekend. It happened on several occasions through the course of building a show file. And everytime, the last thing I remember was moving or copying a plug in, or inserting one across groups. I tried to duplicate the scenario this morning with the same show file, but I was unsuccessful. Nonetheless, I'm taking no chances, going back to 2.7.1 as soon as I can dig out the restore CD.

Hi Bill,

Please contact the support team at [email protected] and refer to this DUC post. They'll then collect more details from you. Thanks.

Make sure you have all you plugins latest installers ready to go as when I installed 2.8 I had to reinstall all of them, but as there are some critical plug in updates that are needed anyway at least this forces you to be cautious and do the full install properly. Put a day aside to make sure you have checked all the manufacturers for latest version and prepare yourself a nice kit with everything you need (installer wise).

If you don't have a decent gap in your schedule stick to 2.7 for now until you do. We have quite a few plugs and the whole thing took a while.

On the user side we have had no problems thus far and the new features are easy to get to grips with and highly useful especially for guys running monitors. You'll wonder how you got by without VCA and Group Spill, Cue follows AFL (especially on a profile) it's great. These features are great.

Thumbs up Re: 2.8.1 - should I? or shouldn't I?

Great thing we can now link two matrixes in stereo. Having the manual delay available on matrixes made them a heavily used output.
Using panning a lot I can only salute the pan crossfade being introduced in snapshots. Such a fantastic function! The recall system was just not complete without scopes on pan-width-balance.
So good having tempo stored in snaps for delays. Works great!
For Mix Rack users the additional processing channels are gold.
