Default To bus or not to bus.....(routing question)

Here is what I'm trying to do....put a gate on my drum track that opens up and lets my guitar tracks through, but I don't want my drum tracks gated.
I tried it on my master fader and it sounds pretty cool with the whole mix (a very staccato kind of gate) but I think I want the drum track constant., with the guitar tracks popping in and out via the gate. I hope I'm making sense.
It's probably something simple that I'm overlooking, I looked in the manual but still couldn't figure it out (that thing needs some examples) so if anyone understands me your help would be appreciated.

easy.

i do this with kick drums to sample in a 40-60hz sine wave to boost the bottom.

peice o'cake.

1. take drum tracks you want to use for the effect, and apply a send using a bus in the sends area of the mixer. use bus one for this example.

2. now take the guitar track, and apply a gate (digi gate is ok but not the best)

3. in the RTAS gate, select a sidechain input, use bus one. the drums are now triggering the gate, which is passing guitar audio.

told you it was easy.

now do it and tell me how good it worked!

You can also use coaster's example for other stuff, like tempo synced tremolo.

Create any kind of audio pulse track, 1/8 notes, 1/16 notes, triplets...set it's output to a free buss, insert a gate on a guitar track, set it's sidechain input to the pulse buss, mess with the gate attack and release for the kind of tremolo you want.
