I do also mix large (+80 tracks) sessions with plenty of plugins, at a 256 buffer at most.
What OS and PT version are you running on that? Just curious where your sweet spot is.

HMM I have seen a lot of comments when I was having cpu crashing where folks suggested disabling hyper-threading for better performance.

Windows 10, and PT 2019.5.
SSL MX4 madi card. (I believe the drivers are important)

Not for better performance, but in some circumstances some plugins work less effectively when hyperthreading so if that is the case, disabling HT will help.

Not a silver bullet though. In general (as in most processes have some idle time every now and then) enabling HT makes things more effective because it makes it possible to take advantage of those idle times.

Though if there is no idle time, HT makes performance worse because the additional process, for simplicity let's call it a dispatcher, has more work juggling processes to real working cores and eventually the dispatcher is asking the processor for more than it can handle, therefore stopping playback.

I'm one of them. On my main rig, disabling Hyperthreading has reduced errors and spiking.

I'm new here still learning the ropes so hopefully I'm in the right place but just wondering
I'm putting together a computer to run the latest pro tools I'm looking at :
windows 10 home 64
10th gen i5 @2.9 10400
32 gig ddr4 ram
1tb ssd hd os
500gb ssd hd internal dedicated for bfd3
gigabite 210 motherboard
pro tools 2020.9 or latest version?
usb3 inputs
will this set up be ok with the fast ssd drives or should I opt for an earlier version of pro tools or an i7 may be??
thanks

Knowing nothing about your needs/budget...

See the attached chart. I would highly recommend you spend the extra couple hundred dollars on an i7. For Pro Tools you will find a meaningful (significant) difference - both single core and multicore performance. Also, this chip should overclock to 4.9 GHz easily which will make for a stable / powerful system with Turbo Mode and C-states OFF.

Hope that helps.

Just me, but I would opt for i7 and a faster clock speed(like 3.4GHz or better). It costs more up front, but the system will last longer(because you won't out-grow it) which makes it a better value.
