I tried there update and support plan for 15 months (3 licences), turned out to be a complete waste of money. I did not renew this year and I am stuck on PT10. Most companies I deal with I respect and am happy to pay them for their products, Avid not so much...
Hello bcwiz,

Thanks for listening to the podcast. With your 15-month upgrade plan you received all upgrades through Pro Tools 12.5. That would have included: new Freeze and Commit workflows, Clip Transparency, new batch fades workflows, unlimited busses, an improved I/O setup, plus Cloud collaboration. If you are a PT owner (as opposed to PT HD) you also received a bunch of other new capabilities.

I'm sorry to hear that you consider this a complete waste of money. Was there something additional you were expecting to receive?

Thanks,
Tony

Lastly - Pro Tools Expert eh? No webinar for the common man? No direct "let's talk to our customers approach"? I so wish AVID would hire one person to be a public face that actually talks to the users... HA.... LOL....
Hi propower,

There will be a good lot of stability improvements in 12.5.1.

Regarding your question about our engagement on PTE, this is indeed one of the ways we talk directly to our customers. In addition, we occasionally host our own webinars and appear in other's videos, like on Pensado's Place. There's no shunning one for the other.

Thanks for being a part of the community,
Tony

Tony, so no bug fixes if you aren't on a support plan anymore? We have to pay for 0.0.1 updates?

Stability and a usable product?

No one cares about cloud collaboration, that's like putting a spoiler on a rusty old Chevy pick up.

BTW, Tony, you guys need to start talking to the folks at Audinate, because there is some major incompatibility with Dante Virtual Sound Card on Windows and PT11+ and PT12+.

All releases, including stability releases, are now only available through an upgrade plan, or subscription license.

Tony,

Thanks for stepping out and giving us a status update on Pro Tools.

We are hoping for a stable and reliable version of Pro Tools 12.x.

No one can spend more than a few minutes looking at the postings here and not notice the numerous reports about stability issues. And a lot of these are from experienced people with serious hardware.

Avid cannot ignore this as a few out of date plugins. And we get no real feedback as to what Avid is doing to hunt down and fix these problems.

Tony, please communicate this up the chain. And please do us a favor, if management disagrees with any of it, have the guts to tell us straight up.

Hi JCBigler,

While I respect that you may not care cloud collaboration, many of our customers do.

Also, there have been an enormous amount of bugs addressed in the past 6 months alone. Some of them are documented in this light reading here:

I hear you loud and clear TAMBOR.

Delivering reliability is an ongoing effort, as you can imagine. With every new OS, supporting 3rd party software, plug-ins and other factors, it's a game of whack-a-mole. Still, this is a top priority in every release. As part of the effort to better communicate stability improvements we've been publishing updates in the release notes, here: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/R...-Release-Notes

If you are experiencing issues on your end, please continue to send details to us.

Thanks for your time,
Tony

hi Tony-

the noise blasts are a serious flaw, potentially dangerous to both ears + gear.

i believe Avid should do the right thing, and fix those, regardless of support plan status. and then we can all keep arguing about Avid's bug fix/support plan policy after our ears are no longer at risk.

i don't appreciate paying my next payment in order to get that stuff sorted- feels quite a bit like a shakedown.

thanks-
