external HD
I have Pro tools 8 m-powered on a powerbook g4 2gb ram, 60 hd. I don´t have any space on my powerbook internal drive so I want to use a usb 2.0 wd 500 gb drive that I have to manage the sessions, the problem is that PT won´t let me turn the drive into a record or playback drive. I know that PT doesn´t support usb drives but is the only thing I have. Is there a way of managing my sessions using the wd external drive?? I want to get rid of the sessions in my internal drive, make a back up, actually 2 backups and use the external drive to manage pro tools sessions. Thanks for the help.

Re: external HD
You have a Powerbook G4? Doesn't it have firewire? The reason you can't use USB2 on your Powerbook is because it doesn't have USB2. Find a firewire drive and you'll be OK.
BTW, what interface are you using?

glad I saw this topic, as I have a similar question - I have PT8 running on a Macbook with OSX 10.5.5, and I need the firewire port to run the ProjectMix I/O - when I tried to save my new PT file on a Toshiba hard drive I had the same problem as above. what can I do? |

Re: external HD
Have you checked to make sure the drive is formatted as HFS+ (Mac OS Extended (Journaled))? Most drives come formatted for Windows which typically means FAT32.
BTW, unless it's a pretty old Powerbook G4, it should have usb2. If I remember correctly, if it's a 1.25GHz or faster, you should be good to go. Also check in the Workspace window to make sure the drive is marked for Recording. |

Re: external HD
USB is not recommended for recording to. Get a FireWire drive and chain the interface if you have to.
