Its hard to believe that the Worlds de facto recording software belongs there

At the AVID booth, the crowds were so thick at times that you could not use the isles. It looked pretty successful to me.

Thats good to hear Tom.
Although there seems to be a large number of disappointed people around.
What would you say was the highlight of Avid show at NAMM?

Foremost in my thoughts, is the new confidence and optimism that was so prevalent in the attitudes of the reps and managers with whom I the opportunity to share thoughts. I didn’t get that “who’s steering this ship” feeling at all. The focus seemed very unified.

On the floor, “Pensado’s Place” was recorded live a few times at the main AVID stage. That drew huge “standing room only” crowds. The Alicia Keys remix was another big hit. Pro Tools demonstrations showing a ton of new 3rd party plug-ins pulled in a mob every time I passed by.

Another interesting note; virtually every major third party plug-in developer was using Pro Tools to demo their Plug-ins even though they offered VST and AU versions. That says a lot.

Remember, this show’s target audience is primarily people who sell and distribute musical products. They basically get once a year on the West Coast to see these new offerings. AVID was very well received by them as well. At the last Winter NAMM, there were very few AAX 3rd party plug-ins, HDX was brand new, and did not yet even have Windows support. We have also had a record number of dot releases this past year. So, “new” is a relative term.

Their booth was by far the most comprehensive of any competing company. They have promised to refocus their energy toward the professional world, and it appears that this is exactly what is happening. They have made it clear that we as users will see the benefit of all of the internal restructuring surprisingly soon.

As a side note, Sibelius 7 looks great.
