Default Which EQ do you reach for first?

Ren Eq or Filterbank?

What features make each stand out?

Just want to hear some differing opinions on the subject.

Between RenEq and Filterbank I prefer the Filterbank; they just sound better to my ears. I usually prefer the P6 Filterbank on one of the tube settings.

My newest favorite though is the Pultec EQ by bombfactory; definitley a different beast (Pultec EQ's are not set-up like a "standard" EQ by any means), but I REALLY like the sound.

I'd go for the Renaissance, but the FilterBank definitely ranks a close 2nd. I just got the Pultec, and I've had some good results so far. The only problem with the Pultec is that there's no gain control, so if the signal is already hot, there's not a lot of headroom.

Generally, I use Filterbank for channel eq's (great sound and low CPU use) and Ren Eq (for warmth) on master fader.
Both serve a different purpose for me so I don't really prefer one more than the other.
The only thing I have found with filterbank eq's is they tend to pop when the bypass or eq in/outs are automated.

Pultec EQ for me. I really like the sound of it. Very "musical", just not too "surgical"

I also use the JoeMeek Meequalizer a lot, but it has more of an obvious sound than the Pultec.

Then probably Waves Ren.

Filterbank is great for surgical purposes on single tracks. The Pultec EQ by Bombfactory does the trick if you want a more "musical" result. Still I think the Pultec EQ is not a MUST if you have to decide either - or. I´d go for the Filterbank any time.
Greetings,
George

Filterbank and Pultec. The Pultec makes dull sounds exciting. Also Channelstrip EQ.javascript: x()

I use the C4 for Mastering EQ + Slight Comp, but for a parametric group band adjustment it rules...

The Ren EQ actually has a dithering of the final sound. I find it slightly harsh and edgey.

The Q10 Flat--Just for the wonderful gain controls with + or - .3 on any of the 10 bands...

Channel Strip for highs, filterbank for middles,Pultec for "life",ren for subtracting, meequalizer for "when it's there, nothing else can",Q10 for surgical purposes.
