Audiobob

I completely agree with you that a yes/no would suffice and people can go on with life and plan accordingly, I just don't have the same feeling about it thats all But I really do agree that Avid should come out and give us an answer regarding this, ain't like it is a Huge Secret if we will have PT10 working a while longer so lets hope we get an answer sooner rather than later

Best Regards

+1 Both you guys, Audiobob, you summed it up perfectly. I tried to come up with something along those lines last night, but was hard to do without sounding like a hater. This almost seems like the situation 11r users were feeling about the pending doom of that interface. Some info from Avid would be better than nothing, starting to turn blue from holding my breath

Don't you worry about 11R.

As for 10 on 10.9?

I doubt it will happen. I'm almost on 11 full time. Just one or two things left. Until they're out, I'm staying on 10.8.4 and using both 10 and 11 seamlessly.

The only people this REALLY impacts are new computer users you HAVE to run Mavs and are therefore stuck with 11.0.2 (i think) and running 10 unsupported. And remember, unsupported doesn't mean it won't work. You just can't call Avid and expect to get help.

Drew,

There were naysayers that the 11r was on the outs, but we all know that, that isn't the case. One more day and it should be official that the 11r isn't going anywhere Still saving up for my 11r

...and that is exactly the point here.

For example, this my new top-of-the-line MBP won't run anything older than Mavericks, and therefore Avid's claim of supporting PT10/11 co-install is kind of null and void.

I'm fine with it, because I still have a working HD3 / 2009 Nehalem / Mountain Lion system, but still I have to wonder what Avid really meant with their PT10/11 co-install promise. Sure it worked for some time, but not now so what gives...

And what does it mean that PT10 will be supported for 5 years? It is not supported now (Mavericks) so how is it going to be supported?

Just questions, not trying to make a fight here.

I was referring to the worries a few months ago before it was leaked that they got the standalone editor done for pt11. There was a great deal of noise about whether or not the 11r was a dead product. Now it's clear that it is not.

Hopefully it will be the same for Pt10 support. The saving grace for many of us is that it's working now on ML. Just a shame for users that have new machines. Pt 10 does work, but isn't supported, that makes it hard to swallow. I've only had my pt rig for a year and as it stands my version is seeming to be obsolete. If I win the lottery I'll get an 11r with pt11, but it's hard to justify a $400 upgrade after spending $700 +tx on pt 10, and $3000 on a mbp.

Well, I would be happy to get in the behind in this case. I'll tell what...

My guess is:

1) Avid knows that if they say it won't happen people will be furious about it... So, it's better to leave things in the air... Like they just did.

2) the more people work on pt 11 instead of 10, more pressure to plugins developers to release aax 64 bit plugins...

It doesn't only effect new computer users.... there are professional studios out there with serious hardware investment that doesn't work on PT 11.
It is a very scary position to be in right now where your Computer and your DAW manufacturer have totally changed their platform and upgraded everything, to just leave you behind without even letting you follow at a distance.... PT 10 on Mavericks is an absolute must upgrade and AVID owe us that level of support !

PT 10 On mavericks would give us he breathing space to upgrade our studios in stages....Financially PT 11 and all replacement of the required Hardware is not possible all at once.

I agree, I'd like to see it supported as well. BUT...

Most professional studios are likely still running 9, 10, or even PT7. 7.4 is one of the "golden" versions that pro studios with consoles stick with, believe it or not.

Other than plugins, what doesn't work on PT11? If your computer can run 10.8, then you're set. You can run whatever you want. If your computer has to run 10.9, then Avid has 11 for you. And even if your computer has to run 10.9, you can still install and use 10.3.8 on it, it's just not "supported" and the uninstaller doesn't work. Nothing scary here IMO.
