Video converter app

I'm in need of a good all-purpose video converter app for the Mac. As these days I receive all kinds of video formats, even .vob files, it seems necessary to have one, which ingest many formats and able to convert them and merge multiple files into one.
Do anyone know a trusty one?

I ended up using ffmpeg from the terminal for that purposes, once you dig into it it's really powerful. There are GUI's available for ffmpeg though like iFFmpeg.

Thanks, I'll look into these. I thought mpeg-streamclip's development stopped 1 or 2 years ago, probably I was wrong then.

Yeah the MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 has never let me down and it's free!
VERY good and a lot of editors I know use it. It's quick and fast.

Sorenson Squeeze is dead simple and is coupled with a massive feature set, batching and even filters. Totally worth it.

Otherwise my go to is always quicktime 7 pro - though vob files aren't usable I think

MPEG Streamclip has been great, but it hasn't been updated in awhile and there are newer codecs it doesn't understand. Bummer. But usually something MPEG Streamclip won't take can be converted in QT7, then worked on in MPEG Streamclip

Wondershare is inexpensive and fast, updates often. Easy interface that covers the video options I need. I use it to convert to H264 or (more often now) Avid DNxHD for PT11HD.
