Re: 002R and talkback
Some create an aux input and plug a mic into an open XLR. Others use something like the Presonus Central Station, which can select between multiple monitors and multiple inputs and it adds a talkback mic/switch right on the front panel. You could also run a mic to the studio room and plug it into a cheap powered speaker like those from Galaxy or Anchor so that it is completely seperate from your recording system.

Re: 002R and talkback
Aux track with an open XLR.
We did an audio track on a few takes and it was cool to hear the control room "conversation" later on. Cool for out takes, funny stuff, etc. |

Re: 002R and talkback
I have a small inexpensive ART DI/O box that runs SP/DIF. I use that with a cheap mic. Create a AUX track and assign it SP/DIF 1 and away you go. MUTE and you are done. Does not take up any usefull XLR tracks and works well. The only prob is that I am looking at a 2 channel convertor for the SP/DIF to run all 18 PREs that I have... Looks like I may go for the BIG KNOB?

Re: 002R and talkback
These are all useful suggestions. I'm trying to wean myself off my d8b, and I had no idea how much all that I/O had spoiled me.
Believe it or not, I completely forgot to even consider talkback when considering the 002R. That's how complacent I had become. The Presonus looks cool and is expensive, and the Big Knob is cheaper than I thought. I could even send my headphone feed to an old 1202 on the way to the headphone amp, but now that I think about it, that talk button and built in mic with a dim feature is worth having. Thanks for the ideas. PS - The Digi answerbase sort of implies that the Control|24 will get the job done for you!! And so will the Cranesong Avocet, too.
