Default ADR when actor and director in two different locations

I'm going to be doing an ADR session on a film project and the director will not be physically at the session. Was thinking of using something like Skype so he can direct the actors from abroad. Was curious to know if anyone has done this or has a better suggestion to make this happen.

cheers

We've done it with the director in one studio(in LA) and the actor in our studio(here in Philly). Connect via stereo ISDN and send SMPTE down one channel and voice down the other. Set up the director's PT rig to slave to your rig, that way every time you roll to record talent, the director is seeing and hearing everything. I'd be happy to explain in more detail if necessary.

If you use Skype, you might want to try the following to get video as well, as suggested by Mundoz in this thread:

It works just great!

+1 for Source Connect for the link to the actor and Source Live for the link to the director

Done this via Source Connect and Via ISDN...Far prefer doing it over source connect (even though the latency is usually worse).
Do a test with the other end before the official session.

Saying latency is worse on source connect is like saying studios in London sound better than in Paris. If you have crappy Internet, then it will be less good, if you have good intent it should be far less latent than and also sound like the 10 years more advanced codec that it is than any ISDN box. Plus it will do all the FTPimg for you or replace any dropouts you have automatically - which is somewhat more than ISDN. Amen.

For me, ISDN is still more reliable. Picture sync work is stable. We have a very fast connection, but I've never had a single source connect session without any problems, dropouts, drifting latency, jerky video synchronization, and source element's customer support (similar to waves wup) always bothered me. With ISDN, since it's dedicated lines, you don't have to worry about dropouts when the other studio's co-worker downloads a video file at the same time as your session takes place.

Done it dozens of times with Source Connect. It's awesome like having the director sitting in your studio. Plus you can either slave to them or they can slave to you all in sync. I've done it both ways. I also sometimes have SKYPE hooked up if the Director wants a video feed but then you will notice the latency. Plus SC tech support is second to none.
But you'll need a good solid internet connection . A dedicated IP will help and you don't want to be sharing that line with others. Took me about 2 weeks to get my Service Provider to work out the kinks. It's definitely not something you want to do overnight. You'll also want to do a test with the other studio before you commit to a session just to make sure it's working on both ends.

If you have any more questions let me know

Best,
Mitch
