Default Good MD3 Multiband Dyamics Presets

Hi to all

Does anybody have any good noise reduction presets for the MD3? I'm working on a feature-length doc, and there is some pretty strong noise (mostly hiss) on some of the dialogue.

I'm using the standard noise reduction presets as a start, and playing with the expander thresholds and comp, etc. but if anyone has developed a 'golden' noise/hiss reduction preset of their own I would really appreciate it if you could share the love!

Thanks

You gotta be kidding! Presets for noise and dialog cleaning and especially with MD3???
I mean MD3 is a very cool dynamics processor. But I would not use it for the dialogs. I know some folks use ML4000 for that, in conjunction with other tools and techniques. But it never worked for really hard noise for me.
And again regarding the noise - no guidelines or golden presets. No magic tools either. Its about hard work and right balance between good and better. As it never will be the best.

Well, I use the Waves C4 and Wave arts Multi Dynamics for NR and they work really well. I've never used the MD3 tho. I would like to replace my L2 and L360 with another limiter and have thought about the MD3 for that.
Best,
Brandon

Hi Brandon

Yeah, the MD3 is great - really transparent dynamic processing with LOADS of control over what it does to your audio

MD3 is awesome as a limiter. One of my favorite together with Massey L2007 and McDSP ML4000.
Never liked Waves L1,L2, L3. Although their C4 was my favorite at a time I was their user.

I would recommend IZOTOPE RX.

It is the best noise reduction tool set I've ever seen.

I've never used cedar tools, which no doubt are terrific, but I've used the various waves bundles (X-Noise, Z-Noise) and Digi's DINR,

Izotope blows them out of the water, and it's only $350 approx.
Check out the free demo at www.izotope.com

You'll love it.
Good Luck.

Yes, multiband compression works wonders on some noise. I recently saw it remove all kinds of stuff from dialog. sometimes though, it does make the voices sound a bit thin sounding.
Search for 'waves c4' 'multiband' 'md3' in the post production sections of both the DUC and Gearslutz. Unfortunately, there is no magic number, just ears.

The MD3 works well in terms of noise suppression ,using the provided CAT43 Algorithm
with a few tweaks, and i might say that it sounds better as a plug in than the hardware version via TC6000.In some ocassions depending on the material it works than the Cedar DNS 2000.The Izotope is a complete restoration tool bur very CPU intensive.
But re NR i think that the CUbeTec VPI tools they are outstanding.

I didn't know it have a cat43 preset. How much DSP does it take up? Waves C4 takes up 1/2 a chip. Is it close to that?
Best,
Brandon
