Default Folder Compare Utility in Win XP?

In Win XP is there a way to...

On a MAC, using Toast--->Utilities, there is a Compare feature. I use this after I archive my session folder to DVD. It performs a full folder comparison and verifies they are identical. I run this before deleting a session folder from the hard drive. Is there a similar utility for Windows? Thanx.

In Windows XP-

Right Hand click on the Folder. Do a File Count and Total Size to Compare/determine exact same file size and file count.

That should do it chief-

Thanx bo fitz, but that simply looks at the header info of the folder and tells how many items and bytes are supposedly in the folder. This does NOT actually read through the entire folder and do a byte-by-byte comparison, as described above using Toast on a Mac. There's got to be some utility app out there...

Could you not just maybe try archiving on a disc (preferrably a DVD+/-RW) and open the files on there to see if it worked BEFORE you delete the one on your hard drive? I mean, it'd be longer and sure taking more time sucks, but we're talking less than a minute, I would think, extra time.

If it looks right, delete off your hard drive. If not, then I'm out of ideas... Also, maybe test it on another computer running Pro Tools, that way you know it worked if it's able to open, assuming the other computer tested doesn't have any files associated...

A quick Google found http://www.foldermatch.com/

I'm sure there are more -- try using Google... it's pretty handy.

Thanx, Kryst. However opening from the archive DVD and looking to see "if it looks right" still is not a byte-by-byte folder comparison. Not likely, but there could be some hidden data corruption. The Toast utility takes several minutes to actually read through both folders and do the comparison. If it finds any sort of discrepancy, it flags it in an error report. Maybe I'll shoot Roxio (or is it Sonic now?) an email...

Thanx, Rail. Exactly what I'm looking for. From their site:

"FolderMatch offers several byte-level comparison options - from the industry-standard Cyclical Redundancy Check to the advanced 160-bit Secure Hash Algorithm. With FolderMatch you can determine if even one byte of data differs!"
