Default Mixer advice

Hi guys,

can anyone advise on a nice mixer to use with protools 9.

im looking for something similar to the 1640i mackie spec though not the price. I was looking at the yamaha n12 desk but was also wondering would i be able to do an analogue style mix down with it.

thanks

Why would you want to use it for an analog mixdown? The only reason you would really need a small mixer like this is for monitoring and routing.

I'm a bit fuzzy as well on why you feel the need. To do an "analog style" mix, no small mixer would cut it(IMHO). While a small mixer would do analog summing, there are better quality summing devices available(like the Dangerous 2bus). I'm all for adding analog warmth, but there are many ways to do that, without compromising your audio by passing it thru an inexpensive mixer(like Steven Slates VCC, or URS Channel strips). Sometimes less actually IS more. If you're really intent on this, I would look at some "better" mixers like the Toft ATB. Something that truely has "character"(as clean as the Mackie is, its not a "character" device).

thanks for the advice guys.

i was thinking more in sense of just having a good mixer to control protools without a 002/3, command 8, etc basically not digi lol

i liked the mackie as i can record wet or dry eq wise and also the fact its not working the cpu hard.
