get garbled sound from Reason ReWired using buffer size 2048

I use Reason v8.3.2 with PT v12.5.2.511 on OS X 10.10.5. I also get garbled sound from Reason ReWired using buffer size 2048 (sounds like strange distortion). Has anyone figured out a solution to this problem? Are later versions of Pro tools better?
