Some ideas to improve Eucon software
Hello,
Actually, despite working, you couldn't say the Eucontrol App is "user friendly". Here are some ideas to improve the usability of the Eucontrol software : (I know some of them have already been requested for years...) - First and ontop of all, there should be a cut, copy and paste function for the Softkeys (long awaited) - Softkeys could be draggable : * drag a Softkey onto an empty space or another one to overwrtite the new location and empty the "old" one. (simple move) * SHIFT+ drag a Softkey onto another one to exchange 2 softkeys locations. * ALT / COMMAND + drag to duplicate a softkey to a new location (eventually overwriting the existing one). - There could be a "dual screen" preview so you could exchange Softkeys between 2 pages with the dragging methods. - There should be a kind of "properties " floating window for the Softkeys. In this case, you would find the font, icon and color properties in a single window whose content would be updated if you click another Softkey : you shouldn't have to open and close so many windows to update or create a page of Softkeys. If you create 24 softkeys (a page), you actually have to open and close at least 24 X 3=72 windows !!! (font + color + icon, assuming you let the command window opened). - Icon and Eucon fonctions could be draggable onto the Softkey and the properties of the Softkey should automatically change from "text" to "icon and text" or "Icon only" (user preference) when you drag an icon : generaly, il you choose or create an icon, you want it to be shown !. - Simply right click a Softkey should give you these options (to quickly remove an icon) + the Softkey cut, copy and paste functions. - There could be a "Library Window" where you could store Softkeys for template or future use. If you often use a Key, say "Home" (jump to page 1) for exemple, you could quickly drag it to a location with the dragging methods. The number of these template Softkeys (including color, text, icon, special command or Eucon command) shouldn't be limited and could be organised, say "by software" : Protools, Logic, Cubase, ..., System and "General Purpose". - In another way, you could associate each of these Templates to a command so when you update an original Template, you have an option (maybe via a right click ?) to update all occurrences of this Softkey in your current set as well (if you update a color, a font, an icon...) I'm not a software coder and I don't know how much of time it would require to implement these fonctions, but I assume they are not very complicated to create, as they don't change anything in the protocol itself or in the surfaces firmware. It's only a user interface improvement and I think that the former Euphonix, now Avid people, who knew how to create a so powerfull protocol, could also improve the user experience. Sorry for being so long... What do you think about it (not being long lol) ? Last edited by Voyageur; 11-13-2013 at 01:44 PM. |

Re: Some ideas to improve Eucon software
Interesting ideas. Too bad Avid clearly doesn't give a crap about EuCon anymore, and hasn't even been able to provide a stable release for many months now. So don't hold your breath, aside from hobbling EuCon along just to keep it working, it's pretty clear we'll never see any more development of it, or any new features added.
They can't even FIX it, let alone make it better. |
