Eucon Windows BUG: some windows r stuck in background when Eucon running.

I have spent HOURS testing this issue, reinstalling windows 7 64 on multiple machines getting to the bottom of this.

This IS POSITIVELY an Avid Eucon BUG as this issue doesn't exist when Eucon is not running or is uninstalled.

On TWO different systems I have windows 7 64 Pro installed and are up do date, FRESHLY installed systems. I've reproduced this with NO other software installed, and with all my audio software installed.

BUG:

As soon as I install Eucon (EuControl_3.1_Win) and restart the system certain windows will fail to come to foreground when clicked. Hovering over said windows will interact with the windows "Aero" effects but clicking or dragging on said window will have no affect!

Reproduce Steps:
1) install windows 7 64 (for a fresh install repro case)
2) install Eucon 3.1 (note artist device is not connected, doesn't need to be)
3) restart
4) run REGEDIT
5) open a windows explorer window
6) click back and forth between the regedit window and the explorer window
---BUG: The Regedit window will not come to foreground, cannot be used.
---annoying workaround: click the regedit taskbar icon first to bring it to foreground
7) in the windows task bar "notification" area right click the "E" eucon icon and select exit.
8) retest from step 4 (may need to close and reopen the existing windows)
---Issue no longer occurs, Regedit can now be clicked to come to foreground.

Notes:
-reproduced on two completely different systems
-100% consistent repro

Regedit is not the only window affected, lots of other windows are affected making using the system extremely frustrating and slow since the user is forced to click the task bar icons to bring said windows to foreground.

Avid please fix this ASAP!

Not that I am aware of but I believe the dev team reviews these posts regularly.

I have the same problem (Windows 7 and Windows 8.1) and I can also fully reproduce it.

I have nailed it down to programs running with administrator privileges.

You can even normally switch among them, but not from "normal" to "program with administrator privileges".

Same issue here on Win 8.1 with Eucon 3.1.3, Artist Mix and Artist Control. The mouse gets locked out of the UI of other applications and windows at times. I have to either alt-tab or use the "application" button on the Artist Control to cycle through and switch between windows and applications. Very frustrating. I've also noticed that the mouse tracking speed will change when switching from applications to the desktop. All of this happens even when the control surfaces are off. If I stop the client and Eucontrol applications, all works as it should though.

One would think that a simple TCP/IP interfacing application which only has to send commands between a DAW software and a piece of hardware (which uses the easiest to use interface from the POV of a developer anyway, namely TCP/IP!) would never be such a big pain in the know you what...

...first the incredible connection issues, now this.

I seriously wonder (and I'm a software engineer in my daytime job as well) whats so hard in developing something as trivial as the interface software to a TCP/IP device.

Also... in developer circles we laugh about how EUCON is not a system service under Windows but started like an MS-DOS 2.11 batch process... I'm already glad we don't have to add it to the Autostart program group manually. Maybe the developer didn't find the option to create a proper Windows service in Visual Studio?

In the thread I started about MackieControl protocol support, JC said,

"Our position is that we do support basic Mackie Control but advocate for applications to adopt EUCON, and we have a free SDK and support channel in place to assist with implementation."

I was discussing the issue with a studio-owner acquaintance who also owns an Artist Mix and his comment was that "Avid barely supports EUCON."
