-9136 Holding off USB Audio - Whats the Deal???
I run a lab of 16 new G5 1.6ghz 1gb Ram machines. Im having the constant problem of the -9136 error either when just playing or bouncing. This can happen either on a session with only 4 tracks & couple of plugins or the Salvation Demo (heaps more tracks and plugins). This will happen either using internal drive or external drive. OS is 10.3.2 , PT LE 6.4.
I've done everything, i've searched this forum and the support documents at digidesign. I've: - disabled norton antivirus - set cpu to maximum - turned off all sleeping options - disabled journaling - increased buffer size to max - increased cpu usage to max - tried different format of audio file (aiff, wav, sd2) - made a copy of a session to see if that would work - fixed system permissions - wiped computer, only installed Protools and the demo session and the demo session will still have the error - unplugged from network - disabled network all services - changed memory - unplugged anything else usb - swapped mboxes - trashed prefs As i said above, im getting this on 16 different G5s (1.6ghz) but some are not having the problem as much as others, but it will still happen now and then. Im convinced this is a problem with the protools software and possibly some conflict with the G5s thats yet to be found.. as you can see i've tried just about everything (if i've missed something, let me know!). This is a very frustrating situation and i would appreciate any bit of help anyone has. There is no decent support here in Australia for protools (unless anyone knows of someone??). HELP! |

Re: -9136 Holding off USB Audio - Whats the Deal???
Well i just saw that Digidesign has approved Mac OS 10.3.4 for use with PT LE 6.4, so i decided to upgrade the OS on one G5 since i have nothing to lose. Loaded up the Salvation demo session and it seemed to play fine, start to finish. So i thought i would put it to the ultimate test, i duplicated tracks so i had a total of 32, i then activated 8 lots of stereo dverbs plus a few amplitubes as well as all the other active plugins in that demo session. Hit play... amazingly it played from start to end, didnt full over at all. I played it a few times just to make sure.. yep no problems!. Im going to try it on my other G5s but i have a feeling that this OS update has fixed the problem. It even says on the Apple site that 10.3.4 improves connections to USB & Firewire devices. |

Re: -9136 Holding off USB Audio - Whats the Deal??
I am starting to think that every G5 1.6 is just somehow not compatible with Pro Tools. I had/have one, and it did not work with an 002R or an Mbox, giving the same error for playing back something that the "world's fastest computer" should easily be able to handle (e.g. 1 track of audio). Pretty much every post in here about this error or the 002 equivalent (-6086, OS Held off interrupts) has been someone with a G5 1.6. Since that model isn't even made by Apple any longer, I think everyone is probably just hosed. I had to buy another computer to resolve the problem, and I think it's a software problem in PT that is specific to the G5's hardware.

I still get this error from time to time, even on small sessions. I have a Dual 2GHz G5. WTF??? This is not particular to the 1.6GHz machines.

I have the same problem too. I thinking of selling my 1.6 G5 and get a Dual, but is a Dual going to make it better?

I have a 1.6 G5 with 1.25GB Ram running Raptor and Glyph drives on a Digi 002r. The bottom line is the performance is REDICULOUS. I love Pro Tools workflow, but I guess unless I buy a Dual 2.5 that I won't get anything done or be using PTLE. Logic, Cubase SL 2.0 and Ableton ALL allow me to run > 64 tracks if I am smart about routing effects and instruments!!!!!!! In PTLE, I can get 17 tracks on a good day. |

CMCaus
I see that you Mentioned setting your cpu to Maximum AND also set your CPU uasge limit to max, Is this two different settings(if so how do you perform the first one?) or did you accidentally repeat the same thing? Im curious because i would like to know if I can increase my CPU limit(other than in Ptools) in my Dual 867. LUD |

You said, "I have a 1.6 G5 with 1.25GB."
Unless you have a pair of 128Mb DIMMs and a pair of 512Mb installed, your total RAM of 1.25GB may be an indication of the problem you are having. If you have any other combination and DIMMs, you have a problems with your RAM. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86414 |
