Recording Mainstage 3 into ProTools 2020.12
Hello- I am looking for someone familiar with Mainstage 3 and ProTools 2020.12.
I want to record from Mainstage into ProTools 2020.12 with audio waveforms so I can edit with other tracks. There are a lot of older posts, but nothing about PT2020. MacBook Pro 2020 OS Big Sur DAW Steinberg UR22mkII Mainstage 3 Thank you for your time! |

PT isn't yet okayed for Big Sur so any advice people would give you is moot.
BTW your system info is not coherent. |

Welcome to the community. If you want to be on Big Sur you need to wait a bit for PT compatiblity.

You'll need to run the Audio MIDI Setup (Applications/Utilities) once BlackHole is install to configure the audio and MIDI. Stephen

Re: Recording Mainstage 3 into ProTools 2020.12
First, welcome to DUC.
Pro Tools 2020.12 and 2020.11 and many plugins seem to be running fine on Big Sur for many users, including me. Heck 2020.12 even runs OK for me on my M1 13" MBP. There are discussions on DUC you can find about running on Big Sur. I would not assume you have to wait for Avid to bless anything with Big Sur, try it and see how it work for you. See many other threads on DUC about it working OK/some issues for folks. You can route audio between apps using Blackhole as Stephen suggested. Another similar app is Loopback by Rogue Amoeba (https://rogueamoeba.com).. and Loopback is running here fine on Big Sur with Pro Tools 2020.11/2020/12. But why do you want to "record from Mainstage 3 into" Pro Tools. If you just want to post process audio in Pro Tools then the easiest/simplest/most reliable way is save the recoded performance in Mainstage 3 and import that into a Pro Tools Session. Why do you need to do something different than that? To include other live parts of a performance? What exactly? I'm not following why you are looking for something specific about Pro Tools 2020. Nothing likely changes here vs. older versions. Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 03-04-2021 at 11:51 AM. |

Re: Recording Mainstage 3 into ProTools 2020.12
Thank you for your responses.
I ended up using a second Mac to record from the Steinberg attached to the new Mac using Mainstage, the old school way. I want to use PT so that I would have more flexibility in recording. Mainstage has limitations. I have used Soundflower back in the day. I’ll check out the software that has been suggested. I was hoping that in 2021 there was a way to use the PT Aggregate device instead of a third party software. Thank you for your time. |
