Default Recommendations when Buying TDM Cards

Well, I am going through some trauma in my HD3 rig, and want to give one piece of advice for you guys/gals out there looking to move into or expand your Protools HD TDM rig.

When looking to build an HD2 and more, my advice is to spend a little more and buy Core cards verses regular Accel cards, they work the same when expanding your system. This way, if something goes wrong with your main Core Card, you are not SOL, like I am right now. The difference between the going used rates for PCIe Core and Accel cards only varies by around 50 bucks, so spend the extra $$$$.

Just my advice......

Good stuff!
Thanks for posting this Barry. I really do appreciate all the help you offer up here.
Sorry you're going through this with your core card.

I accidentally bought a core card when I thought I was buying another Accel card. I had the same realization as Barry - that a second core card in my system is a good bit of insurance…

Best…H

Same here...I purchased a chassis and ended up getting another HD3 on top of the one I had already which means I always have a backup should my core card fail.

I'm so happy there are only one kind of HDX cards out there... Until some day Avid releases HDX Accel

Hi,

Just incase people are wondering.

This is only the case with PCIe core cards. the original PCI(x) core cards don't have accel chips! but do still work as process cards
