OMG after I finished a MIX Protools froze while closing now im getting this :

The document could not be opened because it was created with a newer version of pro tools



There is a fix for this or I lost the mix ??

I know I can import the files to a new session but I don't want to lose the MIX !!!

Try opening some of the auto-backup versions(look for the latest time/date and work backwards).

just out of curiosity what is the session files extension? is it XXXX.ptf or xxxx.ptx???? If it is .ptf try changing it to .ptx

Worth a try but sounds like you lost it when it crashed... like didnt finish writing the session file before it went down.

you have a corrupted session file. if no session file backups exist then you are rebuilding from scratch.

It's 2018 and I'm getting this same error (newer version) trying to open a .ptf file that hasn't been opened since 2011.

Is it possible that this old session was done in SD II file format? If yes, you will need to open with pt10(OR OLDER) and Save Session Copy.and convert to wave format.

other ideas:
First thing to try is to create a new blank session(same sample rate and bit depth) and try importing Session Data from the bad session. Don't try to do all tracks at once. Try the first 10 or so. If that fails, try the next 10. If that works, keep importing(SAVE after each successful import of some tracks). If you get lucky, you may recover enough(but expect at least one track will refuse due to file corruption).

If the above fails, step #2-create a blank session at a different sample rate(IOW, if original is 48K, make the new session 44.1K). Then use Import Session Data and check the box to apply SRC(Sample Rate Conversion). The thinking here is; re-writing all the audio files to a new sample rate MIGHT work(it has for me, twice in the last several years).
