selector tool doesn't select

Yesterday, my selector tool stopped selecting the playback spot
or pre-marked region where I clicked.

I have selected the Smart Tool bar for the trimmer,
selector and grabber tools.

Here's what happens:
I place the selector line on a specific spot on my audio track,
click, and hit the space bar to play -- it begins playing at the
beginning of the track.

I can use the transport controls to move the blue marker to a new
spot. If I do that, the space bar begins playing the audio there.

It's distressing!

Please help me if you can.

I answer my own question because an excellent guy
named Mark called me and knew what to do:

Go to
Options in the menu bar
Click on "Link Timeline and Edit Selection"
