Default Is it time to upgrade?

My MacPro is getting long in the tooth but still works. I purchased it as the latest and greatest tower with PCIe slots prior to the cylinder MP. I have HDX setup running PT11. I have a digital link cables going to my two Aurora 16 and have been happy with 32 I/O. This has been a great system with little to no problems with latency or sample off set when overdubbing. As I have done my research I can see that Thunderbolt is the thing. If I get a new computer can I or should I use my PCIe cards? How can I connect the Aurora converters and still run PT11 so seamlessly.

Are you running out of power currently?

If not, why upgrade?

It’s simple to upgrade.
Sonnet and Magma make pretty bulletproof options in the form of external PCIe chassis. Both in thunderbolt 2 & 3 flavours.

Not running out of power because I am mostly functioning off of the t PT cards. I am just wanting to be prepared for when my old MacPro tanks. My system is actually functioning well but know that even parts for the older computer and becoming difficult or impossible to get. I had some of the hard drive sleds fall apart and contacted Apple. The sleds were no longer available.

I will look into these companies. I wonder how latency is affected with the thunderbolt 3 into a Sonnet or Magma chassis.

If you’re not running out of juice, IMHO it would be best to wait and see what the new Mac Pro redesign brings us at some stage later this year.
