Default Unwanted crackling noise only upon playback...HELP!!!!

Bump for this issue as I have the same. Has anyone figured out what this wordclock reply is all about. I've got an internal and external clock option on my M-Audio Ultra but I don't think that is what is meant.

Surely there is a simple answer here!!!!

Ray

ccuwan, You can change Clock Source in Setup > Hardware. However, I've been having the same crackling problem, and changing clock source didn't seem to help me.

You might try going to Setup > Playback Engine, and adjusting your buffer size, or better yet, reducing your RTAS to 1 processor. I just changed the RTAS setting here, and it immediately eliminated the crackle.

For anyone following this thread or finding it, it appears that the crackling and popping noises are caused by a variety of things generally revolving around the relationship between the M-Audio device and your computer and the speed with which they can talk to each other. As you have read above different people found different solutions. For me it was a simple as changing the USB port that I had plugged into. Simply moved my connector and the crackling stopped. I assume the administrators of this site they are tired of this question as none stepped in to help so here is what I found.

A fairly comprehensive list of possibilities is here:
