Going from 48kHz, 16-bit into PT at 96kHz, 24-bit?
I have a Kurzweil K2600 synth connected via AES/EBU (thru a Kurzweil converter "box") to a Digidesign 192 I/O (PTHD II). The digital output to the 192 I/O is 48 kHz, 16-bit.
I want to input this stereo pair into a 96 kHz, 24-bit session in ProTools. QUESTION: Can the 192 I/O convert this input to 96 kHz, 24-bit? How do I set it up? If the 192 I/O cannot handle this, I would alternatively have to take the K2600 analog outputs directly to the 192 I/O (although I am limited on 192 analog inputs available). I really don't want to use the analog outputs of the K2600 for recording into the 192 I/O, since it is pretty dumb to go through the A/D and D/A conversions, when I have purchased digital transfer capability with the Kurzweil. Of course, if there is no other choice, then that's what I'll do. Thanks for the help!! Mike |

Re: Going from 48kHz, 16-bit into PT at 96kHz, 24-bit?
No replies means this is a dumb question?
Just want to know if the 192 I/O can somehow handle a digital input at a lower sample rate (and bits) than the session sample rate. To do so, I assume it would have to interpolate the lower sample rate data to SRC up. Or, does it just refuse to accept the input? Thanks, Mike |

Re: Going from 48kHz, 16-bit into PT at 96kHz, 24-bit?
Nobody has ever needed to import "old" digital audio data into a session at the wrong sample rate?? Nobody had old 44.1 or 48kHz data you wanted to use in a "new" session after you started mixing at 96kHz??
Please guys, I need some help on this. Thanks, Mike |

It's not a dumb question necessarily, but what you're asking is readily available here. From the producti information page of the 192 I/O:
-Switchable, real-time sample rate conversion on digital inputs on the 192 Digital card, which allows easy streaming of digital signals at any sample rate. I hope that answers your question. Good luck. |

Shawn,
Thanks! I couldn't get the link to work, but you led me back to the 192 I/O Guide, and I found it on page 19. I didn't have "SR Conversion" selected. This is great. Thanks again! Mike |
