Default *sigh* Another Newbie

Hello all,
As with so many others I am a newbie to Pro Tools though not to computers and/or recording software. Pro Tools is a big jump for me, though, a big jump. Every time I feel like I am making a little progress something comes up and I am starting over...again. Veritably, one step forward, two steps back...

I have made two files, one containing the hdwr list from Sandra, the other containing the barebones sftwr from Sandra. Rather than burying this intro I thought I would wait and include either or both with my next entry should they be required.

Several days ago I attempted to install the upgrade to 11.0.02 on my Windows 8 64-bit OS. It did not go well; when I tried to load PT it hung solid before I even got past handshakes and what would you like to do fair user?

I uninstalled PT and put the old 11.0.0 back up. Everything appeared to be A-Okay. Today, though, I am experiencing a new symptom. When I try to C+P a drum loop across from the Workplace to the track in a newly created song, the program hangs and goes into a 'not responding' loop.

I will provide whatever info is required and I do hope the general response is civil. I have taken in a GREAT deal of info in the past week or two and quite frankly I am feeling a little cowed by all of this at this point.

One small step at a time is fine with me. I have lots of time and a willing mind to offer.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

You attempted to install 11.0.2 over an existing install or you did an uninstall Pro Tools 11.0 first? You want to always do the uninstall if you have a full installer like 11.0.2 Do you have a Pro Tools 10 co-install? (what version?)

If Pro Tools 11.0 was working for you why did you upgrade to Pro Tools 11.0.2?

What exactly is a "not responding loop". What exactly are you doing and what exactly happens on the screen. You are trying to paste that loop into what kind of track?

Start by reading the "Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting!" above on this page and post a Sisoft Sandra report for your PC.

Have you completely optimized your system for Pro Tools, followed every little instruction no matter how silly seeming or inconvenient.

Hi and thanks again,
Yes, I attempted to install 11.0,.2 over an existing install. I did not uninstall 11.0.0 first. No I have no 10.0.0 co-install.
Had I known about doing an uninstall prior to going forward I would have done so.
I attempted to do the upgrade because I thought it was something I should do. My assumption was that there must be flaws which the upgrade would correct. I eventually reasoned my way out of that thinking, uninstalled 11.0.2 as completely as I could, and re-installed 11.0.0.

I attempt to C+P a loop from the roster of available selections provided on the Pro Tools disc. I have moved all of those folders onto my separate HD before trying to work with them. I work with two HDs and I have an additional external drive at my disposal though not for heavy work because it is too slow, therefore only for off-line storage.

Pro Tools is all that is running on this system. I have even gone to the trouble of stopping the charm bars (which I find irritating in any event).

Here is the Sandra info I have gathered. Please advise whether it is sufficient.

I have since discovered that it is one file in particular which does not like to be c+p from the Workplace window into the track. There may be others but I am unwilling to sift through all avl loops to find out. It is an annoyance at the moment so I shall push on.
At the rate I am moving I suspect I will seek assistance for more pressing issues before long.
Thanks.

Reading the manual helps along with the readme notes - but in the future it is always best to completely uninstall the program when doing a full reinstall - (a .dot upgrade would be fine to install on top of an existing install 11.02.1 or whatever)

Possibly however the readme's which are downloaded with the upgrades are where u can find info about which bugs or compatability issues have been resolved

In my personal experience there have been many updates that I didn't even bother with (I wasn't having problems) so I just skipped

Example 9.0.3 was such a good release (for me at least) that I didn't upgrade to 9.06 till I was ready to jump to Lion 10.7.4

On another note is windows 8 qualified for pt11? I honestly don't keep up with the windows qual list

Yes PT 11 is qualified on Windows 8.

For the OP, just keep going and ask for help if you run into more problems in future.
