Default Partition or not ?

Hello ,
Im thinking of partitioning the Audio drive of my system 1 [XP SP2 ,PT 6.4 digi001,xp,200gb audio drive] because I need to have my samples collection [about 120gb] on it.
Is this a good thought or just copy those in a directory and defrag from time to time [no partitioning] ?I think that if the samples will be copied to the 2nd partition of drive will be physically stored on the outside [slower to access] surface of the disc....or it simply doesn't really matters ?
Thanks

Personally I have never believed in partitioning for the simple fact that the hard-drive is still the exact same hard-drive.... The window dressing makes it appear to be (2) distinct drives, but it's still the same physical hard-drive.

In this case, I would agree with Brad. I would put the samples on the system drive, or install a third hard drive. The 2 times I will partition are: if the system drive is large, I will partition and use the extra space for backup, or if the audio drive is larger than 500 gig, I will split it for "housekeeping".

+1. On a related note, any problems with using bigger drives? I've seen 1.5TB int. SATA drives lately for quite cheap. If a drive like that gets three 500GB partitions, is one partition faster that the others? Imagine an I7 build loaded up with 3 or 4 monster drives ...

I myself have always been a bigger drive user with no probs...I don't have a 1.5tb but in my i7 I do have 2 1TB, 1 640g, 1 500g, & 1 320g in my tower... I can't & have not ever did the small drive thing... sessions average 100g so I need mucho grande space (I have 9 large externals as well)...

Well then I won't tell you that I have (3) internal 1TB SATA drives and (6) 500GB Glyph GTKey Drives, (1) 1TB drive, and a desktop Glyph 500GB drive...not to mention a LACIE 500GB, an OWC 1TB, and a Western Digital 350GB drive :)
