Default Dual 1.8 vs Dual 2.0 & LCD monitor recommendations

Is it worth the $500 price difference? You get a VERY slightly faster bus 1ghz compared to 900mhz, 256 more ram, the HD is 80gb bigger, and of course the chips are slightly faster. I'm debating which one to get. I'll be using an Mbox.

Will a 64mb video card be good enough? This computer will basically just be for music

Also, does anyone recommend any good 17" or 19" LCD monitors?

Don't forget that the dual 1.8 has PCI slots while the 2.0 has PCI-X slots allowing faster flow (future use).

Since you are looking at a LCD monitor keep in mind that when you are at less than the maximum resolution that text is a bit fuzzier, so since most monitors in the 17" - 19" range use a maximum of 1280x1024 you may wish to get a larger image with the 19". Take a look at the NEC Multisync LCD 1960NXi, which I have found to be most satisfactory.

The older dual 1.8 (revision A) is a good machine and it has PCI-X slots and can hold up to 8G of RAM unlike the newer ones. Maybe you can find one refurbished...

As far as the monitor goes, it's where I pinched pennies the most and if I had to do it again I would have tried to save a little more and gotten at least a 19" instead of a 17". Long days make me squinty sometimes ...

Good luck.
