+1 i think SoundGrid was on its way to doorstop territory from the day they launched it. i don't know a single studio that's adopted it, or that plan to.

really dumb, costly move by waves IMO.

Yeah but don't compared total sales of the tdm on it's 10 years of existence to the HDX sales on it's beginning and with the new way things are done. Still 11k is quite a good mark and it will keep going.

I can't give you the stats on the Waves AAX DSP v. AAX Native (obvi), but here's how it looks for some other brands. These are delays induced by having the plugin on an aux channel with H/W buffer size of 256:

Metric Halo Channel Strip -- DSP=9 samples, Native=513 samples
McDSP 6020 EQ -- DSP=33 samples, Native=513 samples
Softube Saturation Knob -- DSP=37 samples, Native=517 samples
AVID EQ3 7-band -- DSP=9 samples, Native=513 samples
AVID Fairchild 670 -- DSP=9 samples, Native=513 samples

In general, you're looking at 50+ times the amount of delay in native vs. DSP when used on an aux track.

Then there's the issue of losing voices as well. . . .

Interesting - and I am curious since HDX would be my next step if HDN doesn't cut it...

Is it necessary to have the HW buffer at 256 when using Native plug ins with HDX??
Does inserting a NAtive plug in on an aux (with HDX) always give ~2X HW buffer??

Check it out everyone! Flux is having a good sale on all plugins, many of which are AAX DSP.
