Re: Blue Cat Patchwork & Cthulhu
Hi Donald – thanks for your helpful posts -
I’d be lost without The DUC Support Plan. Saw this PatchWork update (October 20) info: The new PatchWork 1.5 plug-in also supports MIDI FX Audio Units. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=359807 |

Its the issue that PT doesn't recognize MIDI data sent from a VI.

Re: Blue Cat Patchwork & Cthulhu
I posted an inquiry on Cream in the Kirnu Cream forum on KVR and asked if Cream would ever be AAX, and got a reply directly from Arto the developer. Here is his reply:

Re: Blue Cat Patchwork & Cthulhu
Hi,
if I understand well, it should be possible to do what you want, either inside of our PatchWork plug-in, or even outside of it: MIDI routing inside Blue Cat's PatchWork In order to connect the output of a MIDI effect (arpegiator, step sequencer etc...) to the input of a virtual instrument inside our plug-in, you simply need to use the internal MIDI ports (port A to port P): For example, connect the input of the MIDI effect to the host (by defaut), its output to port A, and the input of the instrument to port A (disconnect the "Host port"), and they will be connected: your incoming MIDI events will go thru the MIDI effect before reaching the synth. (In case you are wondering, all these options are available in the plug-in menu). More details can be found in the manual. Multi effect/instrument routing example: MIDI routing outside Blue Cat's PatchWork If you just want to use the MIDI effect inside PatchWork and route its output to another VI inside Pro Tools (in AAX format), just route the output of the MIDI effect to the "Host" port. Then you need an extra MIDI track to perform the routing from the PatchWork plug-in that hosts your MIDI effect to the AAX VI, as shown in this tutorial. It's a bit short, but I hope it helps!

Re: Blue Cat Patchwork & Cthulhu
Thank you for all that info. I'll have to print all that out and go through it step by step while I'm using PT. Wish there was a video showing this being done step-by-step. I'm a visual learner!!

Re: Blue Cat Patchwork & Cthulhu
Well, I set it up exactly as the tutorial said. 1 instrument track, 2 midi tracks. On slot 1 of inst track I installed Patchwork and the put Cream in first Pre slot. I put Xpand on 2nd slot in inst track. I routed output of MIDI track 1 to Patchwork ch 1. Out of MIDI tr 2 to Xpand ch 1. Put MIDI notes on track 1. Rec armed MIDI tr 2 (the one routed to Xpand). I called up an arp preset in Cream, set output to MIDI ch 1, called up a voice on Xpand. Hit play...nothing. I can see Cream is getting the MIDI notes, but Xpand isn't getting the output from Cream via Patchwork. What did I leave out? That seems to be exactly what the instructions say in the guide.

Re: Blue Cat Patchwork & Cthulhu
Did you also Rec arm MIDI tr 1? (Arm both tracks for recording)
PS - sent you an email |

Re: Blue Cat Patchwork & Cthulhu
Tried that too, no diff. I wish there was a video showing it step by step. Clearly there's some additional steps required. What's frustrating is that it isn't at all transparent why it wouldn't work. Logically, it should!

Re: Blue Cat Patchwork & Cthulhu
So, I've looked over that tutorial guide again, and one thing I noticed in the photo with the pull down menus is there is MIDI IN and MIDI OUT option to select channels. I can't find that on my Patchwork. I have a pull down menu that looks almost identical to the one in the picture, but NO option to select MIDI channel IN/OUT. That may be where the problem is in getting this to work. Is that only available in the Mac versions? I'm on Win-7, 64bit, PT-11.
