Maybe the best way to run this would be to go analog from the computer to the Aux inputs on the 003 and hit the Aux to Mon button to listen to non-protools sound. I've been doing that for years without issue. Granted the sound quality slips a little(mostly due to background noise) but its not that bad. Since setting up my new studio, I run an otical SPDIF cable from my computer motherboard to the optical input on a Presonus Central Station and now the quality is excellent on all fronts with zero hardware conflicts.

I've read through a few threads that rolling back to QT 6.5 seems to work ok, which I have done (and sample movies play fine in QT), but now iTunes crashes when I try to load it. I'm assuming it's because I uninstalled the latest QT and installed 6.5, so my question is which version of iTunes do I need to get to work with QT 6.5? Is there a way to work it with iTunes 8 (I really love the genius thing)? If not I'll live. I just want iTunes to work with my 003. Help!

Thanks
I've had a Mac and an 003 for two years and it never had an issue playing itunes through the Digi Core...but last week I upgraded to Leopard and PT 8.0 and suddenly I have the same problem as you. I'm sure they'll fix this soon!

Choppy playback of iTunes has been an issue for Windows PT LE for a very long time. Digidesign blames Apple, Apple blames Digidesign. I don't think a fix is coming anytime soon.

Digidesign makes it's hardware to work with their software. As a courtesy, they have provided a WaveDriver and an ASIO driver. While the first version of the WaveDriver from several years ago was playback and record, subsequent versions were/are playback only. Vista doesn't even have a WaveDriver.

There is suuposedly a rewrite of the WaveDriver and Vista support somewhere in the pipeline, but it must be way back there. We haven't heard anyting about it in months. Do the workaround albee suggested. You'll have your sounds now, not sometime in the future.

Then again, if it's a problem on the Mac now too, it will probably be resolved tomorrow.

Cheers,

I just send the Comp Out to Analog 7/8 in...how I run Soundminer, and works fine.

Catch is, be sure to mute that Aux in if bouncing, else residual noisefloor will be printed as well.

My Mac Pro's line out is noisy, presumably due to EMI. I can connect my Mac's optical output to my 003's optical input via a Toslink cable. But is there a way to route the Mac audio into the 003 output mix without running the ProTools app? Or if I set the I/O routing from PT8 and quit the application, would the I/O routing still work? Thanks.

A more elegant solution is to use the Presonus Central Station. That way, you can run the optical SPDIF from the Mac to the CS for monitoring non-Pro Tools sounds. I do this with my PC and the sound quality is excellent(I match the output in the OS so it plays back at the same level as PT. I know that sounds like a lot of money to solve that little issue, but the CS actually does a lot for me and this was an added bonus.

This is what I've been doing also. I just hit AUX to hear what is coming from the computer sound card.
