No it's not a stupid question--but it has been answered on DUC a few hundred times and search is your friend.

You can install Pro Tools 9 on as many Macs and PCs as you want but you can only run one at a time. You authorize Pro Tools to run when you connect your iLok dongle to a computer.

Moving sessions between computers with different interfaces (if that is what you want to do) may take some futzing around with io setups etc. But It is overall very nice. Mixing on laptops using only the internal audio interface is handy, etc...
