The issue with italics happened for my friend after IT updated him to 2024.3.

I've taken every Windows 10 update and never seen the italics issue on any version of Pro Tools.

Now, of course, since I've said that, it will now hit me.

OK! Avid Support finally came through with a fix: a zip-file containing some fonts. I installed them (by unzipping the file and copying the font files to C:\Windows\Fonts), rebooted, relaunched Pro Tools, and presto! - everything is back to normal.

My Windows 11 installation is just a few months old (this is happening on a new Creation Station machine I bought from Sweetwater just recently), so I'm not sure whether PT 2024.3 was asking for fonts that were never there, or if the installer for the update somehow deleted them, or what. But if you are having this problem, I have put the zip-file I got from Avid up on my Google Drive. Feel free to grab it and see if it works for you too.

The link is here:

Thanks all,
Malcolm Pollack

Thanks for sharing Malcolm. And Thanks to Avid support for providing the zippy solution.

I'll download the zip file and set it aside in case the issue ever happens again.
That's a lot faster than doing a restore!

My friend downloaded the zip file and his IT did the font install. All italic issues in Pro Tools, Word and his browser are solved.

Thanks mtpollack and Avid Support.

Thanks Malcom & Avid - this fixed the issue for me as well, though it is a bit unnerving that system fonts were affected at all by installing Pro Tools

Hi all,

I'm very glad to have been able to help! (Also very glad to have this irritating problem resolved.)

Whatever went wrong on Avid's end, let's hope that they sort it out for their next update.

Best,
MP

Hi All !

Unexpected Italics here too. On the Playback engine window, and a little here and there.

The fix worked fine here.

For Avid troubleshooters:
- I did not upgrade PT to 2024.3
- I did upgrade Playcell, Grovecell, Synthcell, and the 'palette' to 2024.3

Glad to see Avids involvement and prompt response.
