Default VSD and SSD with Postconform?

The Post Conform FAQ sheet mentions no scenerio using a VSD and SSd in the setup. Would this fall under the need to convert LTC to MTC on the SSD? Anyone have answers on this? Also if I have a controlable deck that responds to RS 422 but has no LTC out (ala DSR 40) would it be correct in assuming that I could not accurately control this deck and conform from those DV master tapes? I am currently trying to aquire hadware to setup a d24 system capable of using PostConform to redigitize from both beta and DV masters, so any info in this vien would be lovely. Thank you.

Default Re: VSD and SSD with Postconform?

Depending on the video deck, the SMPTE time code can be sent down the 422 line. All of our decks have a seperate t.c. out, but even the AVID doesn't use that... it gets it's code from the serial control (422).
When we use Post Conform, we use a microlynx to convert midi t.c. to SMPTE. Even though PConform 2.0 doesn't have the lynx option, it still works.
I still find that Post Conform is an unstable program. It does what it says it's suppose to, but there are often crashes during a conform... Sometimes we just do the conform in the AVID and then OMF the sequence to a ProTools session.
Good luck
