5.1 Audio Track Layout Preference

A number of my clients (in fact all of them) have been requesting 5.1 audio files come to them in SMPTE format layout.

Please Avid. Make this a user preference!!!!

It's very time consuming to have to create 7 new mono audio tracks and then reorder the tracks every time we have to deliver stems. When you are talking about 9 or 10 sets of 5.1 stems, it really slows down our deliverables not to mention increasing the possibility of error.

For what it is worth, you can use Neyrinck SoundCode Exchange or Neyrinck SoundCode For Dolby E to export from the timeline to an interleaved file in SMPTE order. Post Haste has a SoundCode For Dolby E license so if you have access to it, just set the configuration to PCM 5.1 instead of Dolby E.

Paul, thanks for the information. I think it's Post Haste Sound that has the Dolby E license.

SoundCode Exchange looks like a great tool, unfortunately, my clients want the files as AAF embedded 23.976 files so that they can import them directly into the Avid and plop them down on the timeline exactly in place and on the right tracks.
