Guys.....

If you're not going to overclock....you'll be fine with the stock Intel.

However, I'll tell you that the Noctua or Thermalright Ultra 120 for around 45-55 dollars will get you 12 degrees C cooler at IDLE....and will keep you stable in the 40's overclocked with not problem. Worth the investment. Don't waste time with the stock INTEL if you want to push the system.

The Noctua and the Thermalright by the way are among the quietest of all CPU heatsink/fans.

I can now confirm that my system with the 003R is rock solid 100% stable. I haven't had a chance yet to do the Dverb test and I also haven't tried the onboard Agere firewire controller.

My specs are listed a few pages back but is based on the ASUS P5K Premium WIFI AP motherboard and Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (G0 stepping).

Hopefully I get time tonight to try the Dverb benches.

What did you base your confirmation from? We should probably define "rock solid 100% stable".

Congratulations
Are you using the 1394 port on the Pyro PCI card ? Will be interested to see how it compares with the Agere firewire controller....and also your dverb count

This is based on opening/ re-mixing/ overdubbing material that I recorded on my previous P4 system.

Also have recorded new material using BFD and guitar rig.

No crashes, no errors and I can't get the CPU usage to go over 30% yet!!!

OK, for me 100% rock solid stability is not having system restarts, PT LE "not responding", DAE errors ect etc. So far it's just doing what it's told

Like I posted in the other thread, I am not using the onboard Agere 1394 controller and am using the ADS Tech Pyro 64 PCI firewire card as qualified by digidesign.

Ok guys. Please help me on this one. I installed the new Zalman CNPS 9500 and the temps are actually worse....

61C 61C 56C 60C IDLE

I applied the Actic Silver 5 just how their instructions said. I installed the fan exactly perfect to the instructions and that sucker is screwed down and not moving. Fan on the left side of the heatsink,as I look into the case, pushing the air out. It has been hot here in Los Angeles but I have had the AC on all day and it feels cooler than 75 degrees in my apt. I'm gonna try here and get my specs up to see what anyone has to say. Should I return the CPU for a replacement??? I just don't get this. The links people have been posting have said that the temps of this CPU fan with full load is way under 50C . What is the problem here? I'm beyond frustrated and almost freaked out.

Specs:

XP Home
Intel Core 2 QUAD q6600 LGA775 2.40 GHz B3
ASUS P5K Deluxe WiFi AP (P35)
Crucial Ballistix 2Gb (2 x 1 Gb) PC2 8500 1066 MGz 240 pin DDR2
Corsair HX520 W PSU
ASUS VGA EAX1600PRO SILENT 256M Video Card
X2 SEAGATE Barracuda 250 Gb 7200 SATA
Zalman CNPS9500 Heatsink
Samsung SATA DVD Burner with lightscribe

Link to my CASE~~~~> 120MM fan front and 120MM fan back(this case can't be that bad can it???)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147033

I bought the Mbox 2 Pro yesterday and would really love to get this going but these temps are not normal. Help please.

This scale says I should be getting low 30C IDLE. How can I be so far off?

Well the key word right there is "yet". Dont worry, with all that extra CPU headroom you now have, I'm sure you'll get a bit creative in a few sessions and get it close to 100%.

Keep us posted on long term stability throughout the next few weeks and months as you work with your new rig. Thanks.

6969, man, I don't know. Sounds like you have everything right. Yeah, maybe RMA the processor. At least that way you'll know if it's the processor or something else that is the cause for the problem.

If you are running at stock speeds, your room is cool, have intake and outtake case fans, heat sink on properly, case isn't cluttered with cables and wires inside etc., I'm at a loss.

As for the link, keep in mind those temps on that chart are with an x6800 which is only a dual core, and they run cooler than quads.

Thanks Voodoo. There has to be someone that has my specs. Sunburst? Where are you man??? Should I exchange this CPU? I'm leaning towards YES.

DJ

P.S. What does RMA mean? Return...M??? ...A???

P.S.S. My temps right now are... 59C 59C 52C 58C 1:00AM
