pro tools express with imac
Hi!
I am going to upgrade my windows 7 to an imac. And I really dont know what operative system to choose, any one who can give me a tips. I have used the info on avid sites and it said that i can use mac os x from 10.7.4 -----10.8.3. And imac 21,5 inch , 27 inch late 2012? will the operativ system mountain lion work? and what about maverick as I have seen that these are the two operativ systems imac comes with:=) Thanks!! Re: pro tools express with imac
Mountain Lion = 10.8.x and I believe that would be your best choice. Update it to 10.8.4 or 10.8.5 (don't remember which is better for Express because I only use HD myself... so search avid knowledgebase for compatibility documents unless someone else chime in)

Re: pro tools express with imac
Not much experience with PT Express itself but as far as I could see on the dedicated sites,
version 10.3.4 might be the latest one and it seems to be meant for working with Mac OS 10.8.3. As to my personal experience with PT generally it´s always a good idea to use just the recommended stuff as there is PT Express+Mac OS 10.8.3.+the iMacs you already have posted. As JFreak mentioned above, Mountain Lion is/means any version of OS 10.8. and all the iMacs you listed (model numbers 3.1 and 3.2) came originally with OS Mountain Lion 10.8.2. http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac...words=iMac13,1 http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac...words=iMac13,2 Let me say that my personal recommendation would be to get a 27-Inch-iMac-model as only these came with a 7200rpm-OS-HD which is definitely recommended for Pro Tools (for all Native versions-is not so important for HD because this one got disk cache). The 21,5-Inch-models came with a slower 5400rpm-OS-HD which is not really good to get PT work properly/smoothly. So all you may have to do is to get one of these iMacs (guess you may have a look at ebay or another store selling used Macs), make a clean OS install from the original OS disc (=OS Mountain Lion 10.8.2.) and just update to 10.8.3. Then install PT Express version 10.3.4. and you should be good to go! I guess you have already registered your copy of PT Express and you have an Avid account. Then you may just login and find the installer of PT Express 10.3.4. in your products/downloads area. There is a bunch of PT Express related sites. Maybe you already know it, I post it anyway. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...431&popup=true ...if you scroll down you also may find related hardware drivers and further info. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/FAQ/en436171 http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...pple-Computers Wishing you the best of luck and lots of fun, VRW MacMini i7Quad, 16GB Ram, MBP Mid 2012 2,5GHz i5, 16GB Ram, MacOS 10.9.2, Apogee Quartet+Duet 2, Genelec Active, Yamaha NS10, Pro Tools 11.1.2, Logic 10.0.6, Waves, MCDSP, Duende Native, Softube, HOFA, IK Multimedia etc |
