Re: Mbox 2 hum and computer data sounds ?

The colder it gets, the hummer we hum. Helps with groundloops too.

Re: Mbox 2 hum and computer data sounds ?
could be a ground loop.
could also be the audio connectors. i can make this happen by removing the output jacks just slightly (about 1-1.5mm). maybe try some different cables? i use neutrik connectors on all my cables. also, is the input to your power amp 1/4" or XLR? if it's XLR, it might pay to check how they are wired. i.e.: are pins 1 & 3 bridged? what happens if you add/remove the bridge? |

Re: Mbox 2 hum and computer data sounds ?
I believe I am having the same problem. I am trying to monitor the internal audio from my G4 while running Protools. I am using a 002.
When I plug headphones directly into the headphone out of the G4, I have no problems. When I go into the alt source inputs on the 002 or into 2 line inputs while monitoring through an aux, I get the noise. I did some research and found that the G4's audio output is unbalanced and the 002's inputs are balanced and that this could be the problem. So I ran the computer's output through my radial directbox into a mic input on the 002 and the problem was solved except that I would have to buy another DI to get stereo. I bought the Samson S-converter, which supposedly takes an unbalanced -10 signal and makes +4 balanced, but still have the original problem. Any suggestions? |

Re: Mbox 2 hum and computer data sounds ?
Yes I thought about earthloop, however these usually appear only when
you have devices connected via audio I/O that are using different ring mains there should be no difference in voltage potential for devices powered on the same ring. I am not going to use iso trans on I/O for an Mbox. I now have it connected to a unbalanced amp and the hum has gone. |
