Default Upgrade from 10/11 co-install to 12 - if subscription expires do I lose Pro Tools?

Hi. First post here. Very sorry if this has been asked before, but I need to decide whether to upgrade or not in the next 24 hours.

I own Pro Tools 10/11 co-install. I believe that makes me eligible to upgrade to 12 for $99 (if by Dec 31st 2015) which will put me on the new subscription plan for 1 year.

I also understand that I have to surrender my current 10/11 license, but that I'll receive new licenses for 10/11 as well as 12. Is this correct so far?

If I, for some reason, do not renew my subscription at the end of 1 year, will I still be able to use Pro Tools at all?? Am I left with the latest version I have at the time or do I lose all licenses? Or, am I left with what I previously had (10/11) and I lose access to 12?

Thanks!!

Welcome to the community!

The $99 Upgrade Plan is available to PT11 owners, so your 10/11 bundle qualifies. With this upgrade you'll surrender your 10/11 bundle and receive a 10/11/12 bundle, and these are perpetual licenses (they don't expire).

Awesome, thank you!

One last quick question - I just went to upgrade and it's $109, not $99. Any idea why?

The $99 price is USD. So a different amount could be due to the exchange rate (though that doesn't sound correct based on 1:1.39) or taxes/VAT.

What's displayed at the Review & Payment step?

Yous a Canadijun.

I had the same furrowed brow for a moment, but if you consider how terrible our dollar is right now, it's actually cheaper than buying it for 99 USD.

Also, even though it's been answered, you'll still have access to PT 10 & 11, and if your license expires in a year, you're whole machine will self destruct a la Mission Impossible. Kidding, it just means you don't get any more upgrades, and if you want them you have to pay a "re-subscribe" stipend, but you'll still get to use your current copy.

Unless Avid changes its mind again. But so far all its mind changing has been good lately. Made me considerably less annoyed with them, bordering on... possibly... satisfied customer?

It says:

Sub Total $109.00
Estimated Tax $14.17

Total 123.17

You're right, that doesn't seem like the exchange. I'm thinking that's USD and then my credit card will do the conversion..

Hey, thanks for chiming in! So the $109 is actually Canadian dollars? Cause if so, then ya, I'll gladly take that over 1.4 exchange!

It should be $99 if USD, so I'm checking with the store folks to confirm.

I just upgraded and the price was indeed CAD$. So it actually worked out to quite a bit less than $99 USD. I'm not sure why but I'll take it. With our dollar as brutal as its been it's nice to get a break.

It's like Monopoly in real life.. "Bank error in your favour. Get an upgrade to Pro Tools 12 for less than advertised!"

Thanks jeffro and Jakay for your help! Now the upgrade fun begins...

Cheers
