Please help me define what Digital Monitors are and what this does.
Thanks!

Digital monitors accept digital inputs instead of analog. They often have onboard dsp for room optimization and a digital volume control.

Thanks, so when we enable "Digital Monitors" in preferences, what does it actually do?

I've never seen a preference like this in Pro Tools. Where are you finding this setting?

I'm in the System 5 forum, not pro tools. This is a preference in the System tab in eMix. There's also a way to turn this on with regedit.

Aha, right. A quick Google search turns up a what's new document that states that Vol/Mute/Dim and fold down are disabled when in digital monitoring mode so the PEC/DIR can be used simply as a bus send to an external monitoring controller.

Thanks James.
I did not realize this was specifically oriented to the PEC/DIR panel.
I had to clear a number of abbreviations and acronyms to be able to even understand the PEC/DIR panel purpose. I have the document you refer to and really could not understand it until I cleared these words. So thanks.

Digital Monitors on the S5 are a replacement for the MC524. The console then handles folddowns and levels in the dsp, before outputting the monitor audio to one of the MADI outputs.

The drawback is that the 401 meters are "post" monitor-level, and will no longer be accurate unless you are monitoring at the maximum monitor setting (anything else is attenuated, and the monitor meters will also be attenuated).

It has no relation to the 403 module.

Thanks Steven.
This is actually exactly what I am trying to do, but somehow, activating Digital monitor seems to make no difference in the output of the MA703 selected as the source of output of the monitor audio.
Would you care to list the steps you took to activate Digital Monitors successfully?
