Default PT9 compatibility

ANY interface indeed Except legacy HW they want you to replace with their new HW Did anyone mention the sales would increase if ANY wasnt just a catch phrase for built in the last 3-4 years, not literally ANY interface? Oh well thats 280$ they wont be making off every 001 002 user. Someone forgot to tell the elitists that in a tough economy a few concessions go a very long way in customer loyalty.

Don't forget this Asio driver.
http://www.usb-audio.com/download.html

I ran it in Win-7 with an MBox 1 on another DAW with good results for awhile till I retired the MBox which is now sitting over holding the door open to my office.

Default Re: Will Pro Tools 9 work with an 001?

and to think some of the HD people are worried that PT9 would sink their investment....

this thread is proving there will always be pros and hobbyists.

ASIO4ALL is a generic (not really universal, as they call it) driver wrapper (not really a driver; see below) for cheap soundcards that do not provide ASIO drivers.

the catch to this is that it's not actually the driver. you still have to have a compatible software driver installed for that operating system before ASIO4All can recognize it. THIS IS WHY THE MBOX/001 WILL NOT WORK. there is no W7/SL driver.

Working with the ASIO4All driver is a horrible horrible experience. Even on a fast machine, you can't get down to really low buffer settings reliably, and you can't reliably record without pops and clicks. In short, it sucks.

get some new hardware fellas - those little crappy blue boxes are really noisy, and really old. make sure that whatever you get has qualified, specific ASIO drivers!

edit: oh, and the 002 works. it was an omission on that list, but it is listed elsewhere on their site. the 002 and the 003 are very very very similar.

Mac and Windows
002 works fine for me... Dunno why it's not on the list.

Really
Have you tried it?
Because I have an original mbox working under Snow Leopard in front of me right now.
And you know what else?
I can even use 128 or even 64 buffers, with Digi drivers it was 512 minimum.

yours might work, but they dont work reliably, and yes, Ive tried a few different ones on different systems. some work, some dont. some work for a little bit.

this is why it's "unsupported".

Listen dude, I've been using that old mbox for 5 years to do stuff at home (editing, recording)
During the day I'm a staff engineer in a recording studio, and I also do some work (friends..personal) at home when my ears aren't too tired..
and I can tell you one thing, the digi/avid drivers, Asio, CoreAudio or even proprietary (DAE) have always been a real mess.
Just do a search on here or Gearslutz, you'll see all the topics ("DAE errors".."why can't I get a lower latency with LE" "Mbox/Cubase lots of pops and clicks") there are thousand of threads about it.
First off, they give you the choice between 512 and 1024 samples for buffers, it's like ....a joke. (for the original mbox anyway)
Most modern interfaces can go down to 64 or even 32..
Second they always caused all sort of drop out and CPU peaks.
Which is why I (and all the mbox users who where "in the know") replaced these digi drivers with alternative low-latency USB drivers (developped by Propagamma) back in 2006, and never looked back.(for other apps than pro tools)
I think now they are developped by a company called ploytec. same drivers though.
Extremely stable, low on CPU and down to 64 samples, which means low latency.
The DIGI/AVID drivers have never been working "reliably" for me.
These ones are. Iv'e been working with Reaper, the old Mbox, under OS 10.6. since Snow Leopard has been launched, without a problem.
...might not be "supported" or "endorsed by", but they allow professional consistent reliable work.
And the icing on the cake : they are constantly updated with new OS, so no problems with W7 or SL.

Just so I can be clear, your 002 works fine with Pro Tools 9, not only with the 18audio ins and outs, but all of the control surface functions still work as well?

I own a 002 with LE 8, and before I plunk down my $250 to crossgrade to 9, I want to make sure that the audio and control surface functions will still actually work.

Thanks!

002 Mixer is working fine here. I really thought I'd be able to use it as an aggregate device. No dice. I can use the 002 like before. Everything works. I can't add the 002 in to the aggregate device. If I don't use the 002 I can hook up both my Presonus Firestudio and my MOTU Ultralite together as one device.
