HD Native / Omni...... a positive review
Hello all,
I was extremely reluctant to purchase my new native/omni package because of the nightmare stories about Harpertown mac issues and omni fan issues ect. Here's my experience: On a clean OS I - 1) I installed my native card in slot two 2) Racked the omni with a free space on either side. 3) Installed 10.2 and did a reset on the omni. 4) Launched pro tools... did a 30 sec firmware upgrade and a quick restart. 5) Installed my plug ins (did the current downloads the week before my HD got here) PRESTO I was working. I worked all day (9 hours) error free. My mac 2.8 Harpertown did great... did guitar overdubs on 128 sample rate with about 25 active plug-ins on. No issues whatsoever. Not one error. The omni fan never kicked on, not once. Anyway, just thought I'd do a positive review. |

Re: HD Native / Omni...... a positive review
Was looking to upgrade myself and not sure... I'm also scared to death trading in my beloved HD Accel to go Native, and not sure if tracking my projects will go as smooth and professional as my tdm does...
Any more of you out there like me that did it? Rob |

Re: HD Native / Omni...... a positive review
HD3a here almost an Omni/HDX-1
Though the Power Scenario with a 5870 video card, Blu-ray and superdrive and PCie USB/FW400 card. Makes me look at Native Omni. Mostly 100-150 track 44.1Khz Stereo and surround (5.1) sessions. Pre and Post Music creation. Mini-Max HDMI video was to be added but figuring all the motherboard Power consumption is bending my head a bit. So going from HD3a in a magma chassis to Native should give some mixer dsp for routing. is this correct? Will using PCIe power "Y" adaptors void warranties or it's just unsupported? (I know this is a HDX question) Teetering HDX/Native Omni solution. The Omni in either choice will be near the mix position. T (I may have beat this to death in other threads)
