Default instrument track not playing back MIDI

I am currently working on the first hands on project from the Pro Tools 101 coursework book on my own and everything has been great until this point. I created the instrument track, added the expand2 plugin insert and dragged the midi drum kit file from the clip list. When I go to play it back I am not getting any sound but I do see the levels bouncing on the instrument meter only. Anyone suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
