Default Windows 7, pro or ultimate?

I've just recently moved my PT rig from my MacBook Pro (which I sold) to my combo gaming/audio computer. weird mix, yes, but it works well.

Anyways, I've had a whole swack of problems with XP, brand new install, seems to stutter at every turn since I 'updated' it via windows updater.

TO get to the point, I'm looking to 'upgrade' to Windows 7, I've heard good things.

Question is, Professional, or Ultimate? Is the extra moolah in Ultimate worth it, in terms of performance in ProTools, or should I go for Professional?

Hey Monster; WELCOME to the DUCZ!!!

OK so u reallly wanna do u some research around here; I don't know where u heard good things in regard to PT & W7; If ur just speaking on W7 then maybe yes u have...

using ur computer for all the other things ur doing really isn't ideal along with the fact that ur updating it etc. because actually XP is the more stable of PC OS' so with that being said, if ur having a problem with that, ur more than likely gonna have a problem period...

I run XP nearly 24/7, as said above. if you are having issues with PT in XP you wiil likely not be happy in an unsupported OS like W7. Look to other parts of your system for the answers.

Post a Sandra report, let us try to help you.

Before upgrading to Windows 7, check to see what Service Pack you have for XP, and make sure......like, totally sure....that you don't have IE8 installed accidentally.

IE8 = PT killer.

There should be a warrant out for that thing, for cereal...

From what I understand there not much point in Ultimate as the only two features if offers are the ability to change the language after the install and BitLocker whole drive encryption. So unless you have a yearning to Pro Tool in a non native language or are planning to leave your notebook at Starbucks I would get Home Premium.

I have both W7 Pro 64 and W7 Ultimate 64; Theres no difference performance wise as far as protools 8 is concerned and most programs for that matter.

Pro is cheaper; go for it......

Not at all, I just feel that the grief that some are having with it here doesn't justify the move just yet.
