Default Re: Pro Tools 2018.1 (12.9)

Installed 2018.1...went back to 12.6 because of the following deal breakers:

1. Random crashes, usually when Pro Tools was idle in the background (no sessions loaded).

2. Select Tool incredibly slow in the GUI in big sessions. Makes editing very painful. Dragging to highlight over clips exhibited serious lag, and at the same time picture scrubbing was jerky to non-existent.

This was on a pretty vanilla system. Pro Tools HD, MacBook Pro 9,2, Sierra 10.12.6. No real plugins beyond the usual Avid stuff installed.

Back on 12.6 where it just works, and these issues do not happen.

What I commonly see is those who have GUI bugs are on an older macOS.

Here's a Video showing the Select Tool lag in 2018 vs no lag in 12.6:

How much ram do you have in your laptop? 12.6 required only 8GB. 2018.1 requires 16GB.

16GB.

By the way, cloned my drive and ran it on a Mac Pro with 32GB RAM with HDX cards. Same lag issue there too, so it's not the hardware.

Yes...thank you! I thought I was the only one experiencing this. I have the exact same symptoms with 2018.1 - none of this happened with 12.8.3!

I was working with a colleague who also experienced this too. He was asking me to do some selctions to see if it was slow and laggy me too!

Here's the video again:

UPDATE: I updated to High Sierra. The problem with the selection lag persists. It's much less lag than on Sierra. However, still nowhere near as responsive as it was 12.6 (for me, never tried 12,7 or 12.8).

I can reproduce the lag bug. This is pretty annoying with large session.
The more regions you have displayed on screen, the more laggy the selection tool is.

The exact same session, can be without lag if you are zoomed in, or zoom out but with no a lot regions displayed.

It's annoying when you're moving a lot of regions.

Hope a fix will arrive soon.
