Problem with Pro Tools 7.3.1 Mac OS X
I just installed pro tools 7.3.1 on my Mac (dual G5) running OS X 10.4.8 (digi 002 rack with command|8)
The install went just fine. I noticed when I launch the application its slower to come up, and when I try to play a mix (recorded with pro tools 7), pro tools just hangs and hangs. It does the same thing if I use the transport controls on my command|8. I also tried creating a new mix, and the transport just hangs. the "beach ball of death" shows up and sometimes it'll play, sometimes it won't. I'll get the h/w buffer error message every once and a while, which I've played with in the playback settings... and nothing helps this. I even tried a pram reset (command+option+p+r) and this didn't do anything. anyone else see this? |

Re: Problem with Pro Tools 7.3.1 Mac OS X
I experienced a very similar problem. Anytime I'd try to make any sort of action with in my session (edit, fader moves, zoom, anything) I'd get the spinning ball for a few seconds up to 30 seconds or a minute sometimes or I'd receive that same error. Since it was impossible to work like I just reverted back to 7.1 and will explore reinstalling 7.3.1 at another time.

Have you tried all the steps in the OS X Setup and General Troubleshooting thread yet?

Re: Problem with Pro Tools 7.3.1 Mac OS X
I had exactly the same experience, went through all the suggestions (even the CHUD tools), made NO difference.
I am thinking it's because I had only 512MB of RAM. Digi, can you confirm that 7.3.1 needs much more RAM than 7.1.1, 'cause I've ordered more. And it had better fix the problem. 7.1.1 works fine though, and anyway all that stuff about regions disappearing makes me think it's best to avoid 7.3.1 at this time. iMac G5 1.8 MHz 512MB RAM OSX 10.4.8 proTools 7.1.1cs2 Absynth 4 Live 6.0.3 Reason Adapted 2.5 |

Re: Problem with Pro Tools 7.3.1 Mac OS X
I'm getting that spinning beach ball a lot more with PT 7.3 than I did under PT 7.1, so I'm planning to migrate back. I just wanted to confirm with someone who's "been there, done that" that the 7.3 sessions will still work just fine under 7.1.
